MTA TBTA Verrazano Over the Narrows Bridge Rehabilitation Program

Staten Island and Brooklyn, New York

Arora provided drainage and stormwater management support services for the rehabilitation of the Verrazano Over the Narrows Bridge Rehabilitation Program. The project consisted of the replacement of the bridge deck for multiple ramps. Gutter flow analysis was performed to size and space the bridge scuppers to comply with FHWA and NYCDOT design criteria. Field reconnaissance was performed to examine the deck drainage and potential downspout locations on the bridge piers to convey the runoff to ground level. Upon discharge, water quality and management was required to comply with SWPPP and avoid impacts to downstream existing collections systems. Arora's Hydrologic/Hydraulics Task Leader coordinated with the MTA, and various consultants and sub-consultants to connect the deck drainage and avoid impacts to structural components, address agency comments and provide plans, specifications and estimate for final submission and meet project deadlines. The project was delivered, as appropriate, with the MTA Capital Project Delivery process; Schedule and Budget Management processes; Contract Administration including, Consultant agreement/ addendum/modification; Scope Management; major design submittals (final design submissions and PS&E submissions, including the resolution of comments from project stakeholders). The project complied with the State and Federal Environmental Regulations and permits. The project required conflict management of design and construction issues. The completion of major phase reports, such as Concept Development and Preliminary Engineering Reports, including the resolution of comments from project stakeholders were coordinated. The project followed MTA’s Contract Administration process including, but not limited to, preparation and execution of Consultant agreement/addendum/modification.
