Surinder Arora, P.E.

President and Founder

Surinder Singh Arora, PE is the founder and President of Arora and Associates, PC. He has over 50 years of experience in the bridge and highway design industry and was one of the pioneers of Indian owned civil engineering firms in region. He is a fellow of ASCE and was the “Engineer of the Year” for the NJ Professional Engineers Society in 2000. He also has professional licenses in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Maine, Vermont and Minnesota.

Mr. Arora earned his BSCE Civil Engineering from Guru Nanak Engineering College in Ludhiana, Punjab India in 1965. After graduation, he joined Mohinderjit Singh Architects in Amritsar India where he led the design of the 5-story Amritsar Central Cooperative Bank Building in the city. Shortly after, Mr. Arora decided to leave India and continue his education in Canada where he earned a master’s in civil engineering from Nova Scotia Technical College.

After completing his master’s degree, Mr. Arora immigrated to the United States and joined NJDOT in the Structural Engineering Group as a Civil Engineer Trainee. For 11 years, he worked on various bridge projects for NJDOT. During his tenure with the state, Mr. Arora grew through the ranks and earned his respect as a technical and management leader both within NJDOT and the consulting industry. He led many major bridge projects such as Pulaski Skyway Safety Repairs, Amtrak Bridge over Wood Ave, NJ Route 147 Emergency Bridge Replacement and Swing Span Bridge Replacements on Clay Street, Harrison Street, Jackson Street and Bridge Street over the Passaic River.

In 1980, Mr. Arora resigned from NJDOT and moved back to India to take care of his family only to return to the United States in 1981. On March 5, 1981, he founded Arora and Associates, PC. His goal was to create an environment of diverse professionals who could flourish in their profession, work with integrity, work honestly and have an equal opportunity. His goal was achieved. The firm has grown to over 100 people with 6 offices in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Illinois and has provided engineering services on many major transportation projects in the region as well as the federal government. Some projects as a prime consultant include: NJDOT Pulaski Skyway Seismic Retrofit and Rehabilitation, NJ Turnpike 6-9 Widening, Section 7, PANYNJ 6 Bridges over the Trans Manhattan Expressway Stage 1 Study and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission Willow Grove Interchange Improvements project. Also, Mr. Arora’s goal of creating a diverse environment has been a successful one. Arora and Associates, PC is proud to have a professional staff whose origins are from over 15 countries covering five continents. With the dedication of the Arora staff and various teaming partners over the years, Arora and Associates, PC has become a leading transportation design engineering firm in the region.
