Reconstruction and Rehabilitation of the Upper Level Approach Decks at the Verrazano Narrows Bridge VN-84

As a sub to the HNTB\WSP-PB Joint Venture team, Arora is providing drainage and stormwater designs and compliance with the overall Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan for the for the Verrazano Narrows VN -84 contract.     This project rehabilitates the Upper Level elevated approach ramps to and from the Verrazano Narrows Bridge in both Staten Island and Brooklyn.  Project work includes the reconstruction of the Staten Island Upper Level approach deck and bearing replacement, reconstruction of the Westbound Lily Pond Avenue Exit Ramp on Staten Island, replacement of the Staten Island and Brooklyn UL anchorage spans deck, the replacement of the Brooklyn upper level westbound approach deck and bearing replacement, the replacement of the Brooklyn upper level eastbound approach deck and bearing replacement west of Pier EB-2, and reconfiguration of the median barrier at the terminus of the VNB Bus/HOV Lane at 92nd Street in Brooklyn.  Arora performed a site investigation to understand the existing drainage system.  Along with site reconnaissance, Arora examined as-built and record documents, meet with the Authority and project stakeholders, and examine reports and records of corresponding history of rainfall data and flooding to assemble information necessary to complete the design.  With this information Arora performed Hydrology & Hydraulics calculations for the proposed ramps, drainage area maps, gutter flow analysis, pipe calculations and temporary drainage for MPT.  Ground level storm sewer system will be designed to meet the requirements of NYCDEP and the proposed roadway/ramp drainage will be designed to meet requirements of NYSDOT.
