Bridge Inspection Projects

Some of our recent and major inspection work includes the following:

Route 1&9 (Pulaski Skyway)

Route 1&9 (Pulaski Skyway) over Passaic River, Hackensack River, NJ Turnpike, 1&9 Truck Route, PATH, Conrail and various streets - Newark and Kearny, NJ - This high level viaduct, which is over 3.5 miles long, is primarily a 108-span (excluding ramps) riveted steel through-truss structure. It was built in 1932 and is on the National Historic Register.

30 State Fracture Critical Member Bridges - New Jersey

This project consists of the hands-on inspection of welded steel box girders, welded trusses, pin and hanger connections and movable bridge details using confined space entry procedures and a certified welding inspector to perform magnetic particle testing of welds and ultrasonic testing of pins.

11 State Complex / Movable Bridges

This project consists of the in-depth inspection of a vertical lift bridge as well as other large, complex structures including Route 72 over Manahawkin Bay (continuous, pin and hanger) and the Route 52 causeway (concrete T-beam).

PATH Passaic River Lift Bridge - New Jersey

Arora performed a bridge condition survey and bridge load rating for the 3-track, vertical-lift, through-truss bridge spanning the Passaic River between Newark, NJ and Harrison, NJ. We inspected the flanking tower and lift spans, counterweights, towers, fender systems and mechanical and electrical components.

Bayonne Bridge over the Kill Van Kull channel and the Goethals Bridge and the Outerbridge Crossing over the Arthur Kill channel - New York and New Jersey

Arora inspected these interstate bridges for Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, as well as provided bridge deck condition assessments.

Biennial Inspection of Williamsburg Bridge over the East River in NYC

We provided inspection and rating on the suspension span, tower spans, end spans and approaches. Our inspection for the suspension span included the underdeck/floor system, roadway/foot-walk and cables.

Market Street Elevated Viaduct - Philadelphia, PA

Arora inspected the substructure and superstructure members of this two-mile transit viaduct, as well as several rail stations for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA).

AMTRAK Bridge over the Susquehanna River - Perryville, MD

We provided a detailed inspection and condition report for a portion of the 4,153-foot railway bridge over the Susquehanna River. We inspected the entire structure and the lower half of the truss, including the lower chord lateral bracing and bearings for the 18 through and deck truss spans.

10 Major Bridges on the Garden State Parkway - New Jersey

Our scope of work included the 47-span bridge over Great Egg Harbor, the 19-span bridge over Drag Channel, and the 29-span bridge over the Raritan River. The inspection of these major structures involved pin and hanger and fracture critical members.

Robert Moses Causeway - Long Island, NY

We inspected this 29-span suspended arch bridge as part of a Biennial Inspection contract for NYSDOT Region 10. Its size and location across the Fire Island Inlet of the Great South Bay of Long Island required extensive use of specialized bridge inspection equipment, including UBIU, manlifts and inspection barges, along with extensive maintenance and protection of traffic.

1000s of Bridges Inspected Under Multiple State Contracts

In addition to these major structures, Arora and Associates, P.C. has inspected hundreds of state highway and county bridges under numerous separate contracts for the NJDOT, 182 bridges under four contracts for the NJ Turnpike, 145 bridges on the Garden State Parkway under four contracts, over 600 bridges under seven contracts for the NYSDOT, and over 50 railroad bridges for NJ Transit and AMTRAK.

Arora has also performed structural assessment inspections for design work including the evaluation of 32 US Route 4 bridges in northern New Jersey on a critical corridor leading to the George Washington Bridge, which carries I-95 into New York City.
