Arora Selected by NCHRP for Domestic Scan

Posted On February 14, 2008

Arora and Associates, PC has been selected by NCHRP as the Research Agency for the US Domestic Scan Program. Harry A. Capers, Jr, PE, Arora's Corporate Bridge Engineer, is the Principal Investigator. Detailed information about the scan program is on the NCHRP website.

Arora will lead the investigation into several transportation engineering and management topics, particularly how decisions are being made about routine maintenance and major rehabilitations and reconstructions to minimize traffic disruptions and control agency life-cycle costs. The scan program entails four key steps:

1. Identify novel practices.
2. Assess the likelihood that these new ideas might beneficially be applied in other settings.
3. New practices that offer the most promise are selected and field visits are made to observe the practices, identify pertinent development and application issues, and assess appropriate technology transfer opportunities and methods.
4. Results are documented for use by those who participated and for others to apply.

The initial topics to be studied will include:

1. Project Delivery Management.
2. Accelerated Construction Techniques.
3. Winter Maintenance.
4. Regional, Multi-Agency Traffic Signal Operations Management.
5. Bridge Management Decision-Making.

The purpose of the US Domestic Scan Program is to focus the international technology scanning concept on transportation agencies within the US. It will collect information from US sources that can facilitate favorable change in the US highway sector. As with the international program, the benefits come from avoiding unnecessary duplication of advances already developed by other US agencies and creating synergy for promoting these advancements. This enables advanced technology and policy to be put into practice more quickly in the U.S. It also allows for more efficient use of limited research funds by domestic transportation agencies and organizations. Implementation of scan findings is the key element and the ultimate goal of the program.

Arora Celebrates PM Day 2006

Posted On May 12, 2007

On November 2, 2006, Project Managers around the world celebrated Project Management Day. This annual event is promoted by the Project Management Institute to recognize Project Managers’ importance to their organizations.

Some Arora PMs were invited by New Jersey Department of Transportation to celebrate at their headquarters in Trenton. NJDOT PMs put together a day-long event featuring guest speakers and displays demonstrating the benefits of effective project management.

Arora prepared a display showing Project Management Evolution in a consulting engineering firm. As engineering firms grow, their approach to project management evolves. More project management knowledge areas are implemented as the organizations project become more numerous and complex. Our display was based upon Arora’s first-hand knowledge gained during our growth into a 95-employee firm.

Arora’s Khairul Alam, David Hutchinson, Dan Yacovino, and Eric Yermack greeted attendees and answered questions about our display.
